Frequently asked questions?

How do I know if you are the right therapist for me?

I invite you to use the contact form below to schedule a 20minute free consultation. There is no obligation to continue following this, it is a chance for us to get to know each other and to see if I can support you.

What areas / concerns do you work with?

I work with a wide range of presenting issues including but not limited to;

Anxiety

Depression

Trauma

Childhood abuse

Attachment Difficulties

Relationship issues

Anger

Grief and loss

Parenting difficulties

Caring responsibilities

I also offer family therapy for parents and children or family members who want to work on their relationship dynamics.

Where will the session take place?

I can provide face to face, online and telephone counselling. I have completed specific training to help me to work in all three ways. Face to face will take place in my purpose built therapy room. I would ask that online or telephone counselling takes place in a space that works for you (is quiet with limited distraction). Some people feel more comfortable with telephone / online and you can change how you access therapy once we get to know each other. The sessions are yours so you decide how to get the best out of them.

What ages do you work with?

I can provide therapy and counselling to children/adolescents age 11+ and adults. I have over 10 years experience working with children who are looked after within the care system. My adult experience is varied and includes, managing ‘common’ mental health concerns, trauma and attachment difficulties, domestic abuse, bereavement and parenting struggles.

What is the difference between counselling and therapy?

Counselling and therapy are terms that are used interchangeably. Counselling often works with specific difficulties in the here and now, it usually refers to shorter term work. Therapy is often longer term work that aims to look at the root cause of the issue. The type of work we do together will be determined by what your goals are.

How many sessions will I need?

Your therapeutic journey will be as unique as you, therefore it is impossible to say how many sessions will be needed. I offer reviews every 8 sessions so we can see where the work is going and if you are feeling closer to meeting your therapeutic goals.

For parents with children in therapy I offer a termly review, you can find out more about this in the consultation stage.
